I guess if you have found a successful "style" or approach which clients like and it keeps you in work, then there's nothing wrong with that. For all we know, he could have loads of other stuff up his sleeve or other stuff he's working on.
A lot of what has been said can be said of a lot of successful designers/artists/agencies - But why re-invent the wheel?
Yeah, you can argue about being creative for the sake of it and process and all that but a true creative person is the one who recognises when they are onto something instead of wasting time trying to do something "different".
