I actuallly quite like that 'M' logo, also the NYC one that pentagram did. But I really like that type of big blocky geometic typography. Anyway, as many people have said before, its tha application of the logo that usually much more interesting so I'd like to see it in use first.
And as ariey said, the cost is never for the logo itself, its rollout that costs the huge fees that are usually reported. I worked on a rebranding for a football organisation years ago and again it ws reported that the logo was costing a huge amount, whereas the studio I was working for was only getting a small portion of that.
However I put the proposition out, is it bad that a city would spend that cash on something seemingly as frivilous as a new identity or is it indeed a good thing that the city is spending cash and the money is going to businesses etc to roll out the branding thus pumping cash back into the economy?
