I been in DC most of my life. I was out of the country for about 3 years and was worried about the job market but ended up finding a job much sooner then I expected. It seems this area still has lots of work available. One problem you may have is there is allot of work in govt contracting. Designing for the government inst that fun and doesn't leave much in the way of flexibility. Still a job is a job and the money is decent.
