    having much experience with attorneys. some charge hourly and some charge a one time fee. it really depends on what type of lawyer it is. small claims, divorce etc. the next time you talk to him/her don't be afraid to ask how much, they ARE attorneys you know... slimy no backboned mutha... ok. sorry.

    so to answer your question a phone conversation SHOULD be free advice, and meeting with them in person to talk about your case (to see if you have one) should be free. if the lawyer thinks your going to get a ton on $ from a settlement or a win, most likely they'll take a %. (more for them in the long run). if it's a small amount for the win it will most likely be hourly. 150 - 300 for a DECENT/BASIC lawyer.
