I think what you might be seeing with the DV/DVCPRO codec setting is a low resolution, single field preview that QuickTime displays in order to view the material at full frame rate.
If you have QuickTime Pro, open your DV/DVCPRO compressed file in QuickTime player, get movie properties via Apple + J, select Video Track from the left pop up list, and then High Quality from the right pop up list. Then check "High Quality Enabled". This will display the file correctly, though you may have playback issues depending on your processor speed.
