the new G5's come with a 4x, it's plenty fast. just go external that's firewire 400 or 800.
the towers are upgradable. you can go up to 8 gigs of memory, 3 PCI X slots, 2 HD bays that can go up to 500gigs of storage. plus it has the optical and analog outs for whatever.
i love my Dual G5, plenty fast.
