Indeed. But my point was that in the UK we have our mechanisms of power under scrutiny. Whilst I take your point about media/political distraction we have the right (and excercise it frequently) to question and effect these mechanisms.
The US seem hell-bent on looking the other way when they suspect or find corruption in their own mechanisms of power. If that's not apathetic then i don't know what is.
