Also, once/if he gets the chemicals in his body in check, some form of behaviour therapy would be necessary.

Steer him to the works of Buddhism/meditation/suffism/yoga etc. Ultimately he will need to realign his "thinking" pattern, as in quieten the voices in the head. Psychologists have discovered that mediatation has actual real physiological effects on the brain (due to its neuro-plasticity) changin neurological pathways and changing the way you think.

Especially the weed which makes you so absorbed in ur thoughts, has created a very very bad pattern in his mind of being absorbed and IDENTIFYING himself with his thoughts. He needs to de-identify with his thoughts.

An anology use is to become like one who observes his thoughts as a parent observes the amusing and silly behaviour of his children - dis-identification

Eckhart Tolle is good for the layman, IMO:

And yes i know you're all alergic to Oprah recommended self-help trite crap, but this stuff is very good if you can get through some of the hippy-shit.

Of course it's most important to get the chemicals, or rather the neuroligical activity aligned properly first. Which means quitting the ganja and wellbutrin+lithium are highly indicated for bipolar personality disorder, generally safe and well tolerated.
