yo popovich! man, if i were you, the first thing i would do is call your printer and tell him that you will be working with them a lot and that you are an experienced designer, but you are new to print.
be honest. they wont laugh at you. you and your printer need to be tight. pick their brains and let them help you. they will appreciate your honesty and take the time to help you, because in the longrun, they are helping themselves.
every printer runs a bit differently, so always talk to your new printer.
im sorry that i dont know what you are asking. i work only in large format design/production, but what im sayin applies to all forms of print. i love the clients who call me and ask questions. i love them because i can tell them exactly what to give me and the best ways to do this so in the longrun, it saves me time and them money, because my time aint cheap. =)
