Strangely, and this may come as a surprise, i love shanghai because of the freedom i have here. London was driving me crazy, tried to live in NYC and gave up after 2 months. Sold my car because I had to pay £500 a year to park outside my house, and £80 fines for stopping to buy milk. Friday nights to see friends meant hour tube journeys across the city, and having to leave the pub by 11 for fear of spending £30 on a taxi to get home. Going out for dinner was a luxury. Shanghai on the other hand, taxi's pass my house every 20 seconds, £2 maximum to anywhere, there are new restaurants opening every day, bars are open til you leave... and most importantly business freedom is unlike anywhere else. You can pick up the phone and call CEO's, business networks are friendly and accessible. i would guess much like NYC 100 years ago, or London 200 or more!

However, if you need live music, design exhibitions, cheap beer and fresh air: Shanghai is not for you.
