Here's my nomination and a good buy for the money:

    Specialized - Sirrus

IF YOU'RE ONLY GOING TO HAVE ONE BIKE the Sirrus is it. Built for the best balance of speed and control, every FACT carbon or A1 Premium Aluminum Sirrus combines the low weight, high comfort and easy speed of our performance road bikes with the enhanced ergonomics and stability of a flat handlebar

The hourglass speedstays on the Specialized A1 Premium Aluminum Sirrus frame provide a smooth ride.

The aluminum fork has integrated rack and fender mounts, so you can easily add what you need to carry all your gear, comfortably.

The easy-on-your-soft-parts Body Geometry Fitness saddle is designed for long-term comfort.

With Shimano’s Revo 8-speed twist shifter, you don’t need to lift a finger to change gears.

Body Geometry Comfort grips prevent hand pain and tingling fingers

It's $650CD, so that'll probably be around $500USD(give or take). It's light (because it's entirely aluminum) and fast as hell, I ride one. My bike is a few models up, but it's essentially the same ride.

Just sayin' that there's a good alternative to riding a fixie and it'll probably be an easier ride over the bridge to Manhattan, like e-pill said.

    • Built for the best balance of speed and control? Hmmm... yeah... Looks like an average hybrid bike at best.non
    • Go ride the fucking thing and then be a dick head.Andrew_D

    • @ Andrew. Hmmm... you are offended by my comment? I'm talking about the bike, not you.non
    • Its an average hybrid bike for a decent bike. Nothing more, nothing less.non
    • And you don't need triple rings in front for commuting.non
