Lets ponder this scenario: Apple lets you install the system wherever you please but offers no support. Millions install OSX and complain to Apple for the lack of support. That would be brand-damaging and placing them in the same league Microsoft is.
One of the smartest things about Apple policies is they define the league they compete in, not join an existing one. Nothing wrong with that.
