Dude. That sucks donkey dick. I lost my job 3 months back and my sense of self worth went with it so I can imagine how you must be feeling with shit seemingly crumbling around you. My prayers go out to you, but know that you'll bounce back and be better off for it when you do.
Only allow yourself one day to feel shitty. Once you're done with that, dust yourself off and realize you've got one life, and fucked if you're going to spend it in the gutter because of policy makers. There were plenty of dumber people than you who made it and continue to make it.
