Apple Mail and iPhone (IMAP)

I have it set up as follows:
Pete sends me an email, I collect in Apple Mail via a Folder that I have setup with a rule attached to it:
Any mail from Pete, send it to the Pete folder... good times.
The next day, I am out of town, I collect my mail from Pete via my iPhone, no problems there.
I get home, the mail I collected on the road is not automatically place in the Pete folder, which I believe it should. The only way I can find it is to do a search for Pete's email address... this becomes a nightmare when you have been checking several emails over several days on the iPhone.
Does this make sense to anyone? IMAP does a great job of centralising mail, so if you read it on the iPhone, it as classed as read on the desktop, but for some reason, my rules aren't kicking in when I get back to the office.
