I'm one proud card carrying liberal/socialist american born white man. I love this country for the opportunity for me to have the opportunity to have and vent any view I want to.
I'm also proud when I talk to my grandfather who served his country and stormed Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Who endured some of the worst conditions any person on earth could ever survive, save for the people for whom he was fighting for.
This is an amazingly beautiful, vast and varied place. Some of the most beautiful geography on earth, home to some of the smartest thinkers, talented artists and original thought in its short history.
You can disagree with some of its inhabitants (gawd knows I do), but I think it would be just pure foolish to hate any country outright. Particularly a country like the US, who far surpass any other country in donation and spending for so much for international aid effort around the world.
Yeah, we've got blood on our hands. Slavery, unjust wars, covert shit, corporate control etc etc.
And there are certainly leaders and people in power I could certainly do without. But at least I have the right to my dissent.
