I"ll attempt a really crappy metaphor here of post-slavery america: it's like you broke your leg as a kid and it didn't heal quite right, but you still go all out for sports and shit as a teenager and as an adult. But because of your badly healed broken leg, you have to adjust your technique and your goals a bit. Now, sure, you could sit on the couch and whine "I can't do it, because my leg was broken once..." as an excuse, and that might play in some places, but it's kinda pathetic. Or you could go out there and do what you want to do, ever cognizant of being aware and watchful of the injury. You might even need to go get some physical therapy or extra training devices to continue to do what you want, but you don't use it as an excuse to quit or even set your goals lower. Of course, you'll be in for a world of hurt if you think you can just go and run around willy-nilly, ignoring the adjustments you might need to make in light of your prior injury.

    OK, I guess that sucked.
