I doubt there is a way that anyone here will tell you that this is cheap or expensive. And I'm going to go ahead and say, it has nothing to do with the technique used, or if its just text or illustration either, and it has nothing to do with talent either.
Bottom line is, are you worth what you think your worth to this client? How bad does he want you? It's pure business that's all.
You made a good attempt, considering that few designers will charge over a grand for a poster, and most will do it for free or a couple of dollars. It's on their court now, only your client can say "let's do it!" or "sorry. its too much"
