Get a fixed, you could get quite a good one for that price, a Fuji Track, or even a Bianchi Pista... Perfect for the commute and occasional longer rides and will last forever (less breakable/wearable parts).
Get a front brake though, and steer clear of little children! :)

- Front brake is the one that stops you, you can skid the rear wheel easily without a brake on a fixie anyway.DesignedbyDave
