  If you call living without a compass, yet another poor phone camera (get a real camera FFS!) and voice commands suffering...

  I think you'll find the real reason is people who have a 3G are still paying for their phones, you got it subsidised with a 2 year contract that means the contract goes towards paying for the phone.
  If they let you get a 3GS cheap they would be losing money.

  Wait till next year there will be an upgrade price iPhone for 3G customers (3GS will suffer) and it will kick the shit out of iPhone 3G .5
