Talking about crime in other countries is very common with people that have little or no experience traveling, these people are frightened of everything new, they probably order the same meal at the restaurant every time.

They had one bad experience and they already think its worse than north korea.

I have and advice for you, crime happens everywhere all the time, know this, wether you are traveling or not, in your hometown or in riyadh. Just don't draw attention to yourself by being loud and obnoxious, use common sense and enjoy the experience that will open your mind to believing that these sort of fears only stay with the people that stay on a single place for a long time.

PS: If someone offers you drugs, make sure to talk to the locals about costs/quantities , chances are that after detecting you are a tourist they will most likely jack up their prices.
