    I don't think this voting is against the European community idea in general, but it's certainly a severe note of reproach to the bureaucrats in Brussels and ruling parties who think they can pull off treaties and make decisions about countries without consulting anyone. It's also a redundant voting: people don't vote thinking about what's good for Europe; they vote thinking about what's going on in their country and usually EU votings are used to endorse or chastise the ruling parties in each country.

    It would be much more interesting if people in Europe could vote directly for trends or policies. Then we would see if the entire thing has legs to go or not. As it is, it's just too byzantine.
