CyBrain, I'm the exact same way. Only a designer/animator. My math doesn't go further than simple algebra, so I definitely hate development. But after learning AS3, I find it MUCH better than AS2. You'll feel that way eventually too, I think.
The best advice I can think of is to find a developer friend who you can lean on to ask the "why/how" questions. Someone who can really explain things easily. Also, try to accomplish small tasks first, and ask the simple questions first, since that will get you learning about the repetitive methods needed for completing larger tasks.
