Fiat was in the running to buy GMs European division under the brand Opel. Magna, a Canadian car parts giant, came in with the backing of Russian money and has taken over Opel, hopefully saving thousands of European jobs, particularly those in Germany where much of Euro GMs cars are built. I am visiting Italy and watching tv and this is on 24/7.
