^^to add to that (getRefresh's comment on the CAFE standards)... these cafe standards are going to kill the auto industry for the first few years (which I think is also the point - perhaps force a few more auto companies into bankruptcy and then amazingly hand over more than 50% ownership to the UAA... tehehe)...
... how will they kill the industry? You're forcing immediate new technology which 'does not exist'... imagine the engineering costs - then re-imagine those costs being lumped on you... the consumer.
Now I'm not saying I disagree w/forcing change - these are all good changes for the human race on whole (better for everyone's lungs and less oil is SUPPOSEDLY going to be used)... it's just I don't think the immediate forced change can be sustained / paid for by automakers in their existing state - not w/out a lovely lil subsidy from Uncle Obama... which of course will lead to more gov. run business which is... ... bullshit. ;)
