Wait till your review. Go over the projects you've worked on for the last year (or however long) tell them what worked, what you want to improve upon and how you coming into work actually benefits the company in realistic terms, be it in the work that you do, being able to work well with clients, teaching or helping co-workers, extra work or roles you have taken on or wish to take on in the future.

Explain how you enjoy the work and how you aim to improve it. be truthful, honest and don't try to bullshit. Chances are, if you think you deserve a raise, your boss may be thinking the same thing. The only problem is getting a raise or the raise you want in this economy.

Don't be disheartened if you don't get a raise, perhaps theres other things you can get instead, (more holiday days, time in lieu, courses to improve your education/work etc) sometimes its not just about the dough.
