Recently, I've been thinking why US is the country with most prisoners per capita.
The thing is that americans have an irrational taboo against socialism, sort of like homosexuality in muslim countries, only americans are tenfold more persistent and stubbornly stupid. And any political measure which can be interpreted as socialism (even indirectly) immediately means political suicide.
On top of this, in America like in most developed countries, there aren't any shortage of workforce, but there is the opposite problem -- shortage of jobs. In Europe this problem is solved with downshifting and by granting people benefits, esp. scholarships for students. In fact, all free universal higher education, which is increasingly practiced in Europe, is a form of hidden unemployment. If a person spends all his life studying at an university, and lives on scholarship, he creates fewer problems for the society than if it he would be unemployed walking the streets all day and causing trouble with other dregs of society.
In America, the idea of paying benefits to students is a political suicide, consequently, Americans must keep millions of people in prisons, for the stupidest accusations possible. Sort of a replacement for scholarships, the amount of money spent on prisons is about the same, except that americans due to their shiteating nature have to do it backwards like that.
Of course this doesn't apply to the middle class, this multimillion army of prisoners almost entirely consists of poor people, blacks, who have trouble finding jobs in the american economy. As we know 30% of all black men between 20 and 40 yo are in prison -- on top of this you have millions of policemen serving them in prisons.
About 80% of american prisoners are people who are in prison solely because of the fact that there are too many policemen and prisons in America. So, in reality, 80% of all american prisons could be easily closed down and about as many policemen could be fired. In Europe they would have done just that, and start paying to these unfortunate benefits, because as we know, some of us are born idiots and are just useless from birth and there is nothing you can do about it. But in America you can't, and because of this americans continuously eat shit and have sorrows in their lives.
