    Well... HTML does load from top to bottom.

    Personally, unless you're proficient with javascript or flash, page transitions will just look bad and slow things down further.

    To speed things up - you might want to consider starting again (sorry) and not using tables for your layout. You should look to using DIV/CSS layouts.

    I believe dreamweaver has some CSS templates actually with some of the hard bits done for you.
