to shed some light on this, within the army their is an actual MOS (military occupational specialty) of 25M - Multimedia Illustrator.
I enlisted as that MOS nearly 6 years ago, and in training learned everything from pastel portrature to web design. For all internal communications 25Ms provide the graphics. However, the national advertising campaigns are done by outside sources, I believe McCann Worldgroup was in charge of the new "army strong" campaign.
As you can probably see my username is twentyfivemike, as is the name of my design studio. Tactical marketing + strategic design, hoo-ah!
