I laughed out loud @ 7.34, that was pure QBN gold man. To the anthology with you. Indeed, heed the word of the bored.

ESPtype: Yes, you did get lucky. It doesn't seem as if you've learned the lesson here yet, though. Frankly I'm shocked that you haven't been fired yet.

I didn't even say anything bad about my previous employer per se; I just mentioned that my lack of raise this year created a financial problem for my family, and I wanted to gather opinions on whether I should stay put at the aforementioned prestigious firm, all while quietly freelancing, or prepare for a move into a more senior position or start my own studio.

That being said, the former company has a no-freelance policy; she found out here rather than privately from me that I was unhappy with the financial situation; and that after carving off a pound plus of flesh that year, I felt my work was worth $10K more than she could afford.

Her pride was duly injured; though she claimed all was forgiven, she nevertheless decided she couldn't have people on her staff who weren't committed to the firm. So, she preemptively cut me loose—albeit with a couple months salary to ease the blow, but it was still basically a firing despite her saying things like "two months notice with wings." Needless to say, I felt like a used maxi pad—with wings—as I walked out of her office for the last time.

ESP—I recommend you take a break from QBN, Facebook, and whatever avenues in which you might find yourself to wax frustrated. Find a half-way house, lay low for a while. You never know who may be watching... and you certainly can't expect people to genuinely care about your life, despite their gift of a $300 German high chair upon the birth of your son. Just sayin'.
