if you dont like hipsters dont go to silverlake or echo park or even venice to some degree. if you want to avoid stereotypical LA dont go to west hollywood or hollywood. That still leaves quite a bit to enjoy. The one bitch is the car/public transportation thing, it makes it hard to meet people if you dont know any.
