Rick,
I'm sorry that you see it that way. Unfortunately I don't think being against governments 'support everyone,' 'more taxes and everyone will have a better life' approach means that you only care about yourself.
On another note, I'm getting a little tired of Obama slapping certain industries in the face. Twice now he's disparaged industries that are close to home for me. When he gave a thumbs down to corp conventions / meetings in Las Vegas many many companies pulled their contracts. My sister is close to losing her job now, she works in the convention dept at Mandalay Bay. The thing is, even if these companies host their conventions at less notorious places it could conceivably cost them and their attendees far more money due to that fact that Vegas is built on the 'everything under one roof' theme.
Now he mentions that if we don't work on education then people will be working in fast food jobs. Not like it isn't already hard for fast food industries to find decent employees, with stereotypes like this echoing from the top it simply furthers the negative stigma. I'm sorry but fast food jobs can 1. Become an extremely well paying career for some. 2. Give young people their first taste of working. 3. Possibly turn into ownership opportunities for people who otherwise would be working for someone else their whole lives. I know plenty of people that have enjoyed the last scenario there; in one case I know a man who applied for a job with a friend, the owner said they had one opening, the two friends split the position and the guy became one of the top execs at Jack in the Box. Sure, fast food jobs are the whipping boy stereotypes of service industry, so they're the easy target.
