if you're stressin over somethin too much, i don't think that's hip-hop at all. like someone said, it's about having fun and doin somethin positive. but i personally think def jux has kept it real. they love style wars and ill graff and b-boy/girl culture. it's not biting, it's paying overdue homage. people that listen to hot 97 (99% of them) don't even know what style wars is. the new generation of "hip-hop"pers don't even know about the history and roots of the culture. for instance, ask them who afrika bambaataa or kool herc were. they would be like "oh yea, they did that joint with ja rule." there's hip-pop and then there's hip-hop.
