Yes, Illustrator and Photoshop work the same way on Mac and PC.
The mac still has many advantage: Automator, Applescript, Quicklook (a godsend), built in servers or every type, the Finder itself, better color profiling, a focus on overall usability (go read the Apple human interface guidelines), Preview (everything from PDFs to OpenEXR for cinema work) ... I could go on all day.
OS X is a better system. Period. The software engineers paid attention to every detail. The security and stability would have been worth it alone. I've never had a virus on my Mac, period. I've had programs crash on me less than 10 times over the course of years. I haven't had to reboot in months. I don't even have to think about my backup system because Time Machine does it automatically and it works -- it's saved my ass several times when I deleted the wrong file in a project. I've never had driver errors. I don't have 1,000 pre-installed crapware programs running in the background slowing down my system like when you buy from a PC vendor. Safari opens in a split second and renders a webpage faster and more accurately than anything on a PC. Actually, go look at PC text rendering while you're at it -- it looks like shit. As does the color. As does the GUI. As does everything else.
Save your money, go ahead. Just quit trashing Mac users because we want something we work on most of the day to work well and be a joy to use.
