There's no perfect solution, but here's what I am planning to do. Any technology you use to store data that is ten years old should be transferred to new technology. Don't buy unknown brand of DVDs or CDs and protect them from extreme temperatures, etc
As far as HDs, I've tried different brands of hard drives and only had a problem once with a WD that was covered by warranty. Protect them from extreme temperatures as well
