For a bit of perspective, I used to own a Panasonic Lumix LX-2, and I also used to own a Canon Digital Rebel (the original 6.3MP one). The DRebel's pictures are massively superior to the Lumix'. Way less noise, much sharper, higher dynamic range, etc.
So pay attention to sensor size. It matters a lot. You're on the right track with the DP-1, and the G-1 isn't a bad choice either.
Don't get the Ricoh GR-II, Lumix LX-3 or any other P&S digital compact unless you're going to be shooting for web only (i.e. resizing all your images to one megapixel or so) - then it won't matter so much.
