"curriculum stems from the Latin word for race course, referring to the course of deeds and experiences through which children grow and mature in becoming adults"Vitae is "of the life" (latin prepositions were included as endings in the noun)
So curriculum vitae literally means "races of the [someone's] life"
And writing with the ae as one glyph is a kind of mannerism, a way to stick with the original latin alphabet who had (and used) that glyp in that way.
