Some apps actually can, don't remember which, but try (a demo if you don't have it) ACDSee and iView Media Pro....
Both have slideshow features, both have options for playing mpg's and jpg's...
And if you still have the time you should import the whole bunch into flash and let the final swf play fullscreen...but if you did not compress the shiz first I would not recommend it since rendering the final swf might take ages...
