I heard that the iPod Touch 2G can't really be bricked.

"It cannot get bricked via anything software wise, you will always be able to go into itunes click restore and boom. Set back to factory settings. The only was you could physically brick your iPod touch is opening it and ripping out wires."

    and

    "I doubt you've bricked it.
You need to put it in restore mode.
Keep holding the 2 buttons, until you see the apple logo.
Stop holding the power button, but still keep holding the home button, and you will see an image of the iPod connector and the logo of iTunes.
    It should restore now.
Make sure it is plugged in via USB whilst doing this."

Maybe you can only do it to the iPhone? Or it occurs more frequently for that system. I know the 2G touch is also quite different, internally. It took forever for it to be jailbroken.

The trick is, with a jailbroken item, is to never update it until one of the jailbreak developers updates with a new download for everyone. You may have to wait a few more months after Apple comes out with their updates, but I am guessing it's worth it. Especially since Apple never comes out with huge updates (well..they never seem important to me, but maybe it's because I use the Touch and not the phone).
