    it's called a shemagh, it's used in the middle east by soldiers to keep the sand out of your mouth and nose. it moved to the states after people started seeing them in the media

    they're practical as fuck at a ten hour rave or burning man, you can put your vicks in there, spread it out to sit on, wipe your sweat, keep your throat warm, wrap it around a girl when she's bitching about the cold

    i personally love them, i also use it for airsoft cause we play mostly in the desert
