Illustrator is very picky about which fonts it loads. I can’t remember which ones it doesn’t like, but i thought the issue was addressed some version ago. My solution was to set the type in, say, InDesign or FreeHand then outline it and bring it into Illustrator.
Probably not much help, but there it is.
