@ soulfly - different groups have different issues:

there are trade unions that oppose neo-liberalism and the increased job insecurity, concentration of corporate power etc.

there are environmental groups that oppose the environmental destruction caused by neo-liberal economics

there are development activists that oppose the trade rules that favour the rich countries at the expense of poor countries leading to poverty, starvation etc

there are church groups that seek justice across all areas of live including trade rules and the economy - fair trade and the redistribution of wealth..

there are anarchist groups that oppose all forms of statism and will use whatever means to make their point (99.9% of the time this is by peaceful means but the press love a bit of smashy smash)

there are anti-war groups that see most forms of state terrorism such as in Iraq as part of the neo-liberal context

there are regular people that are not really activists but are so pissed off at the economic system and the people who have made shit of it. old people who have lost their pensions, working class regulars who have lost their jobs and students who see an insecure future are all out to make their point.

the G20 is unelected. who do they represent? who are they accountable to? who are they?

and as for the rioting... riots are ingrained in all european political struggles. they are part and parcel of european politics BUT lots of the press in the last few years has highlighted the underhand tactics of the police and the way in which they inflame people to the point of rioting...

but after all - if you haven't exposed yourself to the corruption of power and how that corrupt power fucks over billions of people it'll be hard to join in a riot.
