i'm not welsh but i've lived in cardiff for 4 years doing a PhD..... I've know the photographers work for a few years and it's great but shocking.
all the photos are concentrated around a small street near the bus/train station that is know as "chip alley". Basically it is a small area with about 4-5 big super pubs that you find in every British city. The police have a strategy of police basically hemming people into that area (blocking traffic and putting up loose barriers ) when the big pubs close so you get a mad concentration of pissed up people there for a few hours at 3 or 4 in the morning.
I generally avoid that area on weekend nights because of the shit pubs/clubs but have often had to walk passed there on the way home from other clubs and I have never actually seen it that bad. Mind you, I never stay around to see what is going down.
