Umm... I can't ever recall any specifics about meal time, you know - beyond mention of rations in times of despair.
I often wondered why they were seemingly content consuming so much of their [presumably meagre] grain supplies, or whatever, in stills making high octane moonshine.
They probably did eat something odd though, at least by our measure - as I would assume that our modern day appendix was a lot more necessary an aeon or so ago. Perhaps they ate paper, and the appendix was some reservoir for lignin-chomping bacteria?
That might explain what they did with all the corners they cut off from every piece of paper they produce..
