    example:

after 9/11 a significant number of americans stopped flying, thinking it was safer to drive rather than risk being blown up by terrorists. In the year post 9/11, accidents on american roads rose steeply and more epople were killed as a result of this than as a result of the WTC atrocity. Osama killed more by scaring americans off their safest mode of transport than by flying planes into the towers

    • Not nice, but a great stat...stem
    • yup, we judge risk based on hunter gatherer mechanisms, and its seldom linked to real probability or 'sense'kelpie
    • people feel more in control in a car than in a planeelektro
    • but they are actually more at risk of a horrible, violent death. Feelings, pah! punt human foolskelpie
    • "puny"!!!!!!!! my typing has taken a nose dive recently ;)kelpie
    • yeah.. but they are in control and that's all that matters.elektro
    • an other fact ; people used to buy SUVs because they feel more robust and controlable, but you have more chance to get killed in an SUV than a carelektro
