    They actually created the term "hyper-segregation" for Chicago. It was discussed in an episode of This American Life.

    I met a detective in a bar once, and his area is the south side of Chicago. He said that to those of us who live on the north side, we wouldn't even believe how life is down there. He said it would be like another country to us. Told me how detectives and cops are pretty good at being able to drive down the street and instantly know who has a gun and who doesn't; but they can't do anything. Racial profiling, civil rights lawsuits, etc. and they're basically helpless against the very people they should be trying to stop.
