I think the 740 GLE might be a twin cam engine (B234) which can be a pain and more expensive to repair. If that's the case I'd probably get rid of the car. If it's a standard 4-cyl (B230F) those are good engines and near impossible to kill and there are a ton of parts cars around with those so I'd be inclined to keep it.
That transmission tailshift bushing is a common repair and shouldn't be too bad of a repair cost-wise at a shop.
