Flash is a useful proprietary tool for delivering content. It offers many advantages over other web mediums including building animation heavy sites, font embedding, cross-platform/cross-browser support, vector graphics, transparency, HD video streams and a multitude of other things. Many of the flaws with Flash as a platform are in fact caused by the browsers they're encapsulated in. Flash in limited to doing what the browser allows it to do since it's only a plug-in. One day Flash won't be necessary anymore if the browser companies get their shit together but that day is not today. Flash isn't the problem. The problem is poor communication and standards between browser developers. Flash could have been history if they quit making browser standards a "political" battle to force their shittiest ideas forward as a standard. The same thing has been happening with "open" document format standards for office applications as well.
A Flash site is only as good as the person that makes it, something it shares in common with any other platform.
- but it's not like browsers will ever only support Flash and not HTML? HTML is much lower level languagejunetic
- he said it:"Flash is a useful proprietary tool ", fucking agree.********
