If you were to take movie sites, Car sites (specific cars not the company site), Clothing lines and sites of that nature, they would not have nearly the same impact as an html site as they do as flash sites.
When the purpose of the the site is to invoke emotion, more than information than flash often wins out. and it's just the opposite for a news site, financial site etc... people want to get to the information from multiple sources, easily pull information and not wait.The idea of arguing that flash is bad and should be used is ridiculous. You use the tool that is most appropriate for job.
I think you see more flash sites here, because most people here are designers, and flash sites are often more image driven and fun to look at. it's pretty simple.
