In 1904, a chemist called Falcon Redback was trying to produce a substance to melt packhorses down into glue. He was working for a company called the Equine Reassigment Company, and they were trying to design a product that could be applied to a living horse that was past its best. The principle on which they were basing their product was total solvent decomposition, thereby removing the need to strip a horse carcass down. Eventually, Falcon Redback successfully produced the finished product that he had been striving for, but it had taken him 39 horses before he finally realised it would only work on Donkeys And so was born WD-40........ Wilting Donkey at the 40th attempt!
