they are a load fo ways you can do it... you may have an array holding all the items in an array, one for the name, one for zx and one for y... each time you add an item to the array or change the position of one put it in the right place, and redraw the symbols... if you only do it every time there is a level change it won't be too slow... particularly when you're not dealing with heavy vectors, too many images, or alphas.
